Printable Help Card for autistic children and adults — a simple 'I need help' card to show when speaking is hard.

In a moment of overwhelm, an autistic child or adult may not be able to speak the words 'I need help.' This printable help card does the speaking for them — a simple, clear card to show a teacher, shopkeeper or stranger. Print, laminate, and keep in their bag.

Questions parents ask

When would my autistic child use a help card?

In any moment of overwhelm where speaking is hard — a busy market, a crowded metro, a school corridor, a doctor's clinic. Instead of a meltdown or shutdown, they can show the card. It works even when words don't.

Where should my child keep the help card?

Somewhere always reachable — a pouch on their belt, a small pocket on the school bag, or a lanyard around the neck. The card is only useful if it can come out in ten seconds or less.

How do we practise using it before a real situation?

Role-play at home first — you become the shopkeeper or teacher, your child shows you the card. Then rehearse it in low-pressure real settings: the guard at your own building, a familiar shopkeeper. Familiarity in easy situations builds courage for hard ones.
