Start with just two rooms — Kitchen and Bathroom — because your child enters them multiple times a day. Stick the label at eye level near the doorway. Every time you pass together, point and say the word. Add a new room only after the first two are recognised without pointing.
Should I use the picture, the English word, or the Hindi word?
All three are on the same label deliberately — the picture teaches meaning, the words teach reading. Point at the picture first, say the word, then point at the written word. Over time your child stops needing the picture.
My child ignores the labels. Is this working?
Yes — passive exposure is still learning. Autistic children often absorb visual information without appearing to look at it. Give it three to four weeks of quiet daily presence before you conclude it is not working. Do not test.
